What are essential oils?
Essential oils are components extracted from seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other part of plants or fruits. Although they are referred to as oils, their consistency can range from thin like water to thick like sap. Pure essential oils are translucent yet range in color from crystal clear, deep blue to orange. Essential oils are very aromatic due to the pure essence being extracted from the plant or fruit. dōTERRA only produces Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade or CPTG grade essential oils.
CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade ® essential oils are guaranteed to be pure, natural, and free of synthetic compounds or contaminates.
How essential oils can be used:
AROMATIC:
-
Inhaled direct from bottle
-
Placed few drops hand and cup over nose, breath in
-
On a cotton ball in your pillowcase (Lavendar or Serentity are great calming oils)
-
Diffused in air
TOPICALLY :
-
Place a few drops direct on body, massage in -a carrier oil is always suggested (see below)
-
Add a few drops to distilled water or carrier oil in a spray bottle, spray on body (if using citrus oils bottle must be glass or metal)
-
Applying a few drops to the bottom of the feet this is the easiest & fastest way to get into the body's systemic system
-
Place a few drops in a nice warm bath and soak
-
Add a few drops to the bottom of your morning shower for a "wake me up"
**Never apply essential oils in your eyes or direct in the ear**
INTERNALLY:
-
Drink in your water or tea (if using citrus oils bottle must use glass or metal cup)
-
Place a drop of diluted oil directly under the tongue
-
Make your own capsules, empty veggie caps can be found at through dōTERRA
or at health food stores
-
Cook with the oils (Cilantro oil is great in homemade salsa!)
-
dōTERRA has pre-made softgels to be taken internally
**Please note to only use essential oils internally if they have a supplement facts label*

Basic of Essential Oils:
Using a carrier oil:
I always suggest dilute, dilute, dilute! You never know how someone's skin will react to essential oils, so it is safer to always dilute with a carrier oil. Carrier oils should always be used on sensitive skin, babies, children and the elderly. By using a carrier oil you are dispersing the intensity of the oil without losing the potency.
Any type of oil based product will work but the most commonly used are: coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil or grapeseed oil.
**Do not use water to disperse this will only intensify the oil**
Photo sensitive oils:
Please note that some oils are photosensitive, meaning they react to UV light such as sunlight & UV lamps. You may apply the oil to a place that will not be exposed to the sun such as the bottom of the feet. If applying to skin that will be exposed to the sun it is best to wait 12 hours. You may still use aromatically or internally with no affects.

Keep in mind:
Please remember a little goes a long way.
All oils should be kept out of children's reach.
Pregnant women should consult a physician or licensed aromatherapist before using essential oils.
Some oils are flammable , keep all oils away from open flames or sparks.
